In 2007, I started using sumi ink in my work. The stills are from longer videos I took of sumi ink being dropped into water, I wanted to explore the material, slowed down, and filmed at high definition. Sumi is made from carbon soot. Like the earlier soot work on metal I had done, I realized I was using the same material. The videos are my exploration of the soot, in liquid form.
